Why consultants love maps

Consultants are cartographers at heart. Maps contain a lot of information in a small amount of space. It shows trends, and is usually a very memorable, visual way to see information. Here are 3 maps of the USA that I saw mashed up. .

1) Companies by State, by Steve Lovelace.  Shows big brands by state. No we know where companies are headquartered. It is not comprehensive, how to fit Fortune 500 companies on only 50 states?  Always wanted to know where Dr. Pepper was from.

United Companies of America - Steve Lovelace2) Highest Paid Public Employee by State by Reuben Fischer-Baum. We probably knew this intuitively, but college sports is big business. Related post here.

Highest Paid Public Employee by State3) Gas, Oil and Coal Deposits in the US by Christian Science Monitor.  This is where all the energy comes from, probably the energy lobbying too. The website also shows where the nuclear, bio-mass, geothermal, and solar resources are too.
