Listen to interview podcasts

We can all agree that mentors are great. They have the wisdom that comes from experience. They’ve seen it before and they can save us the trouble and the heartache of their own mistakes. These can be people you don’t know. This can be famous scientist, actors, investors, operators, and musicians. This can be everyone.

Please find a running Spotify playlist of 40+ favorite interview podcasts.  From Jim Collins (Good to Great) to Steve Schwartzman (Blackstone) to Bobby Flay (BBQ), this is some good stuff:

Some of my takeaways

  • Podcasts are a cheap way to get smart quickly; always on your iPhone, available anytime
  • Podcasts allow you to learn by multi-tasking (laundry, jogging, cooking)
  • Founders have guts; that’s what make them leaders not managers
  • Founders are persistent; they grind through failure; they don’t don’t stop at the dip
  • The world is changing; which creates chances for newbies to win (if not the incumbents would always rule)
  • Money is an “IOU” that society gives you for the good work you did in the past
  • Wealth is a win-win game; status is a win-lose game (for there to be a #1, others can’t be #1)
  • Extreme accountability works; get a team of people who are competent and care
  • This is the creator economy; there is no excuse for not “doing” or not “trying”
  • Copy-catting = going to average
  • There are many types of luck and many ways to create it in your life
  • People, product, process
